What do spider webs have to do with candles? Well, maybe nothing, but I was out on my balcony today clearing spider webs and it got me thinking. I wonder how a spider feels when we wipe away its web? Is it angry? Does it think, “Oh, I’d better just go lie down somewhere now?” Although I don’t believe that spiders “emotionally think” in the way that we do, I would imagine that the spider simply says, “Hmmm. I wonder where that went? Oh well. Guess I’d better get busy making a new web so that I can eat again.” Sometimes I think we spend too much energy being angry, sad, or defeated. If we were more like the spiders and just got back to work, we would not only have something to show for it but any thoughts about the old web would be long gone.
In starting this candle company, I have had set-backs. Once I miscalculated the amount of fragrance to add and the batch was ruined. Another time I accidentally labeled 24 “Champagne Toast” candles with “Lemon Verbena” labels (this aftermath was very un-fun). One weekend my site was down at a time when I had been actively promoting it – not great timing. At any rate, if after any set-back, I had laid down and not gotten back up, I wouldn’t have a company and wouldn’t be talking to you lovely people. Keep going. Don’t give up. You can do it – whatever it is.
